The Tsarekonstantinovskaya church in Suzdal is located across the street from Gostiny Dvor, northeast of the Resurrection Church.
Short story
In the old days, a road ran between these churches - the Nizhny Novgorod horse tract, which went through the driveway gate of the Ostrozhny shaft, which surrounded the trading settlement. From the scribal book of Suzdal from 1617, it is known that at the beginning of the 17th century, the inhabitants of the posad erected a wooden church, consecrating it in honor of Tsar Constantine.
The parish was small, the clergy used rifle letters giving the right to receive a salary from the sovereign's treasury, therefore, in the Suzdal inventory, the church was called "rifle". In 1707, the wooden Tsarekonstantinovskaya church was dismantled due to dilapidation, and in its place, at the expense of parishioners, a stone church was erected, which has survived to this day.... At the end of the 18th century, a winter church was added to the summer church of Tsar Constantine. Sorrowful Church, thus creating an ensemble of "paired" temples.
The architecture of the Tsarekonstantinovskaya church
The Tsarekonstantinovskaya church is a tall pillarless quadrangle covered with a roof with four slopes. It is crowned by five onion domes with crosses, placed on high elongated drums. The plane of the roof is separated from the plane of the walls by a lush cornice with horseshoe-shaped arches and curbs. The side facades are decorated with perspective portals and windows with carved keel-like platbands.
The drums are decorated with an arcature belt made of false arches. On the east side, the altar apse adjoins the main volume of the building, and on the west side - the vestibule, built in the style of classicism. The porch is completed by a triangular front, supported by round columns. Currently, the western vestibule serves as the entrance to the church.
